DC Office of Health Care Privacy and Confidentiality

Welcome to the Office of Health Care Privacy and Confidentiality for the District of Columbia. OHCPC is the Official District contact for handling complaints and all HIPAA compliance matters. The Privacy Office will have the primary responsibility for on-going HIPAA compliance for the District. The Privacy Official, or designee (Agency Privacy Officers), will monitor compliance of all designated District health care components. Specifically the Privacy Office will:

  • Work cooperatively with the District’s designated health care components in overseeing patient rights to: inspect, amend, request restrictions to access, and receive an accounting of disclosures
  • Ensure compliance with privacy practices and coordinate with the Office of Personnel for consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with privacy policies for all individuals in the District’s workforce
  • Promote activities to foster information privacy awareness within the District and related entities
  • Cooperate with the Office of Civil Rights and other legal entities, and District officials in any compliance reviews or investigations
  • Handles complaints and protected health information inquiry requests
